Every numeral system has a NUMERALSUM

What is a numeralsum and how are they calculated? Well, there was no word for this until I made one up. I asked myself one day, "Self, what do you call the sum of the digits of a numeral system?" and numeralsum is what I came up with. Digitsum was already taken and almost works. The difference between a digitsum and a numeralsum is that the former is the sum of the digits of any number while the later is more specifically the sum of the digits of any numeral system.

Positional Base Systems

  • The Mayan and Alaskan systems are base 20 systems (they have 20 digits). Both are also positional and use zero.

  • The Thai system is exactly the same as our Hindu-Arabic base 10 or decimal system except that different symbols are used.

Advantages

  • Different systems have different uses.

  • Binary and Hexadecimal are useful for the circuit logic in computers.

Roman

  • The Roman system has a unique numeralsum. No other numeral system has a numeralsum quite like the Roman numeral system. Can you tell me what is so unique about this system? Send me an e-mail. (See below)
